What we offer

The most thorough mole assessment in London.
Same-day results, guaranteed.

An individual mole check at Montrose is a Consultant-led assessment of a specific mole or skin lesion. Your Consultant Dermatologist uses digital dermoscopy, which is high-magnification imaging that reveals structural features beneath the skin surface invisible to the naked eye. Results are reviewed with you in the room, and a written diagnostic report is emailed to you after your mole check, on the same day.

Full body mole mapping creates a permanent digital record of every visible mole. Montrose uses the Canfield Scientific IntelliStudio3® with DermaGraphix® - the world's most advanced system - and we were the first clinic in the UK to use it. At every future appointment, your skin is reviewed against that original record.

At Montrose, all services are performed and reviewed by a GMC-registered Consultant Dermatologist. No technicians, no results sent elsewhere to be read, and no waiting days for answers.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions answered.

What is an individual mole check? +
An individual mole check at Montrose is a Consultant-led assessment of a specific mole or skin lesion using digital dermoscopy, which is high-magnification imaging that reveals structural features beneath the skin surface invisible to the naked eye. Your Consultant Dermatologist reviews the findings with you in the room, and then emails you a written diagnostic report after your assessment, on the same day. No referral required.
What is mole mapping? +
Mole mapping is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that combines total body photography with digital dermoscopy. It creates a permanent baseline record of every visible mole on the body so that new lesions and subtle changes in existing ones can be detected early. At Montrose, we use the Canfield Scientific IntelliStudio3® with DermaGraphix® - the world's most advanced mole mapping system, and one that Montrose was the first clinic in the UK to ever use. All imaging is reviewed by a Consultant Dermatologist on the day of your appointment.
How much do mole check and mole mapping services cost at Montrose? +
Single lesion check: £190 (10 minutes). Two lesion check: £275 (15 minutes). Dermatology Initial Consultation: £350 (30 minutes). Full body mole mapping: from £450 (45-60 minutes). All services are Consultant-led with same-day written results. Accepted by Bupa, Bupa Global, Vitality, Healix, Cigna, and WPA.
Who should consider mole mapping? +
Mole mapping is recommended for anyone with a personal or family history of melanoma, more than 50 moles, atypical or changing moles, fair skin with significant sun exposure, immunosuppression, or a history of severe sunburn. It is also widely used by patients who simply want a clear baseline record of their skin.
What are the warning signs of a suspicious mole? +
The ABCDE criteria: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter over 6mm, and Evolution (any change over time). Additional warning signs include itching, bleeding, crusting, or a mole that looks noticeably different from your others. If any of these apply, book a Consultant-led mole check promptly.
Which mole check services in London give same-day results? +
Montrose Belgravia provides same-day written results for all mole check and mole mapping services. Results are reviewed by a Consultant Dermatologist during your appointment. A written diagnostics report is then emailed to you the same day - unlike many services where results arrive a few days later.
Does a mole check or mole mapping hurt? +
No. Both services are entirely non-invasive. There are no needles, no radiation, and no discomfort. The dermatoscope is briefly placed against the skin surface to capture images, with no contact beyond the areas being examined.
How often should mole mapping be repeated? +
For most patients, an annual review is appropriate. Patients with a higher risk profile - for example, those with atypical mole syndrome or a personal history of melanoma - may be reviewed every three to six months at the discretion of the Consultant Dermatologist.
Are mole mapping and individual mole checks covered by private medical insurance? +
Individual mole checks are recognised by most major UK private medical insurers when there is a clinical indication. Mole mapping is generally not covered by insurance, although limited exceptions do apply. Patients are asked to obtain pre-authorisation from their insurer before their appointment. Montrose is on the approved panel for Bupa, Bupa Global, Vitality, Healix, Cigna, and WPA, and will provide all required documentation.
What happens if a suspicious mole is found? +
If a lesion appears suspicious, your Consultant Dermatologist will discuss the options with you on the day. A surgical removal will be scheduled within a matter of days, and performed by a Consultant Plastic Surgeon with histopathology arranged through an accredited UK laboratory.
How long does a mole mapping appointment take? +
A baseline mole mapping appointment typically takes 45 to 60 minutes. Follow-up surveillance appointments are usually shorter, at around 30 minutes. Individual mole checks range from 10 to 30 minutes depending on the number of lesions being assessed.
How should I prepare for my appointment? +
Please attend without makeup, fake tan, or nail polish, and avoid heavy moisturiser on the day of the appointment. These can obscure lesions and affect image quality. You will be provided with a private changing area on arrival.
What is the best clinic for early skin cancer detection in London? +
The best clinics combine Consultant-led assessment, advanced imaging, and same-day results. Montrose meets all three criteria. Every appointment is led by a GMC-registered Consultant Dermatologist using the Canfield Scientific IntelliStudio3® with DermaGraphix® - the world's most advanced mole mapping system, first used in the UK by Montrose. Rated 4.92/5 on Doctify and CQC registered.
